摘要(中) 網際網路衍生的網路經濟已經愈來愈具體化,並且改變了市場上的資訊流、商流、物流、金流,進而影響產業結構。網路經濟本身無論是技術、政策或是管理制度的牽連皆相當廣泛而複雜,全面性分析的工作非群策群力無法完成。不過我們可以藉由對網路經濟之源起與本質的研究,釐清網路經濟的基本原理。網路經濟起源於共通的通訊網路-網際網路,因此探究網路經濟之源起的方法之一就是要分析網際網路是如何形成的。這正是本文要進行的工作。
網際網路原本僅是電腦網路的通訊協定之一,它最初僅提供美國軍方與學術界使用。在1970與80年代,電腦網路市場尚有其它標準可選擇,包括有X.25與OSI。然而網際網路最後卻成為全球通訊網路連結的共同標準,各類型的電腦、通訊、消費性電子設備,以及大眾媒體都將透過網際網路來提供服務。背後驅動的力量究竟為何呢?為釐清通訊網路標準化的經濟誘因,本文將以產業經濟學中研究標準化的網路效果文獻來分析。
在資料來源上,本文將參照論述網際網路的專書、科技期刊,以及全球資訊網上的資訊,希冀整理出網際網路正確的演進過程與有關標準化的大事記。至於在網路效果文獻的引用上,本文將採用一些重要經濟期刊所刊載的文章,這些文獻同時也是後來其他經濟學者常引用的經典文獻之一。
本文發現網際網路成功的原因主要有四點,包括政府與學術社群的發起、其它學術網路的發展、個人電腦與區域網路的興盛,以及WWW的盛行。這四點不僅對維持網際網路的開放特性有很大的貢獻,同時也是網際網路標準化的助力。
最後,從網際網路的演進過程中,我們看到了網路經濟的本質就在於對相容性與標準化的需求。直接網路效果使得不同網路的使用者產生相互連結的需求,進而吸引愈多個獨立的網路加入網際網路;間接網路效果讓眾多服務供應商選擇提供以網際網路為基礎的服務,進而吸引更多使用者加入網際網路,最後形成現在全球標準化的現象。
