In Industrial Internet of Things, networking has become increasingly necessary for device controllers and factory equipment. However, current fieldbus gateways generally cannot meet the requirements for real-time transmission between numerous devices and substantial data collection and management in an industrial environment because of system peripheral expansion and insufficient communication bandwidth. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a hardware accelerator architecture for multichannel fieldbus gateways. The proposed system was combined with a microcontroller and hardware accelerator. The system core relies on a microcontroller to perform fieldbus gateway management. Additionally, we used a field-programmable gate array to implement a hardware accelerator, combining an eight-channel high-speed serial Modbus controller; the sensor network controller facilitates parallel management of the eight-channel Modbus controller. This system can support increases in the number of Modbus slave devices connected to the gateway, and it also provides functionality for real-time data collection. We simulated the conventional Modbus fieldbus and compared it with the proposed system in the same experimental environment. The results showed that the proposed system had a faster response time. We used a real-time data collection application to verify the proposed system’s performance and found that its capabilities were superior to those of the conventional system. |
