鹿林天文台為完整之科學基地，安置有多項天文觀測設施，基地目前有專人駐守，全年無休執行觀測任務。主要天文儀器有LOT一公尺望遠鏡、SLT四十公分望遠鏡、TAOS四台五十公分望遠鏡、LELIS等。除此以外，鹿林天文台尚安放環境、大氣科學、以及地磁之儀器，我們也利用觀測平台進行儀器研發。藉由教育部邁向頂尖大學經費投入，鹿林天文台將增設東南亞最大的兩公尺望遠鏡，預計在2009年安裝完成。為使鹿林天文台有效運轉，每年約需經費650萬。預計在2009年兩公尺望遠鏡開始觀測後，運作經費也會隨之大幅增加。前期三年計畫獲國科會支助營運經費每年400萬，差額由中央大學補助。為使鹿林得以順利繼續營運，我們擬申請未來鹿林基地常態營運與維護所需之經費。 Lulin Observatory is a full-fledged scientific base, staffed and operational all year round, now hosting an array of observing facilities for astronomical research, such as LOT (1 m), SLT (40 cm), TAOS (four 50 cm), LELIS. In addition, we have instruments for environmental, atmospheric, and geomagnetic studies. Some instrumentation development is also underway. With funding from Ministry of Education, we are building a two meter telescope, the largest in South-East Asia, and will be installed by 2009. To facilitate the operation of Lulin at the current size, NTD 6.5M is needed per year. The completion of the two-meter telescope will increase the operation cost substantially. In the past three years, we received NTD 4M per year from NSC, and NCU covered the rest.
