Abstract: Since the split of Taiwan's feminist sexual politics into two opposite camps in 1994, there has been continuing debate on which is the proper feminist subject to represent women as victims or agents. The feminist subject propagates a feminist ideal image of women in their gender and sexual politics, From the burgeoning of feminism in 1972, the feminist demaded that its ideal subject be strong in mind and weak in body: women's mental and intellectual ability is hightlighted to compete with men on an equal footing while women's bodies ard carefully protected in order not to be used or to downgrade and degrade women's abiliby. Women's sexual expressions are, however, limited so as to meet with the requirements of the victimized subjuct that speaks for women as a minority class against the opposite sex. In contrast, the sexual liberation camp, proposed a new feminist subject in the middle of 1990s to pinpoint the limitation of the feminist subject victim. Whichof the two is the proper feminist subject continues to be indecisive. Two of Li Ang's most controversial novels, Husband killing and Bei Gang Incense Burner, wer published at a time that envusioned the rise of feminism in Taiwan and the division of its sexual politics, Li's representation of the female subjects in the two novels show updated concerns with Taiwan's evolvingwomen's problems; furthermore, the controversy accomplished the proliferation of critical discourses in their reinterpretation of the female characters in Li's novels. Critical reinterpretation and reconstruction of the female charasters in Li's novels. Critical reinterpretation and reconstruction if the two female characters related them to concurrent feminist strategy and illusminated the contradiction as well as enlightened the pollible solution of the struggle for a proper feminist subject. Through contextualizing Li Ang's novelistic representation, Critital reception and interpretation and the development of feminist sexual politics, this thesis aims at re-examining and therefore providing a configuration and an explantation if feminist sexual strategy in its transition from victimization to female agency.
