    摘要: 中央大學天文所,目前正利用教育部五年五佰億的經費在鹿林天文建造一具台灣最大的兩米望遠鏡。但在五年五佰億的經費中,並沒有相關儀器的經費。因此我們提出此一國科會計畫,希望為此兩米望遠鏡建造一具可見光偵測儀器,及維護望遠鏡片的鍍膜設施,並進行在鹿林天文台從事紅外線觀測的可行性分析。在此計畫中,我們將為兩米望遠鏡建造一具利用雙色分光技術的同步多波段照相機。其分光波段將設計與泛星計畫的觀測波段一致。其目的之一是希望利用中大天文所與夏威夷大學合作的泛星計畫作為兩米望遠鏡的研究利基。泛星計畫將取得史無前例的大量巡天資料。因為地理位置的關係,鹿林天文台是世界上第一個能追.泛星計畫中各種瞬變資料的天文台。若能充分利用泛星計畫的觀測結果,作為各種新發現的追蹤及後續觀察,鹿林二米望遠鏡將能產出大量的第一手重要科學結果。而二米望遠鏡的鏡片,需要定時的重鍍及維護。但因鹿林天文台的運輸困難,望遠鏡建造安裝完成後,將無法將鏡片運下山鍍膜,且國內目前並無如此巨大的鍍膜設備。因此我們計畫在天文台建造一套鍍膜設備,以便維持望遠鏡的長久觀測品質。此一設備完成後,將是國內最大的鍍膜設備。除了可從事二米望遠鏡的鍍膜外,也可以提供國內其它研究單位的大型儀器鍍膜所需。另外,我們希望能同時從事近紅外線觀的可行性分析。二米望遠鏡如果能搭配近紅外線儀器,將使鹿林的二米望遠鏡,成為世界上最前沿的天文觀測儀器之一。但因鹿林天文台並未做過近紅外線觀測。在缺乏實際數據的狀況下,我們不確定鹿林天文台是否適合安裝近紅外線能的觀測儀器。因此我們也希望從事紅外線觀測的可行性分析。對未來的可能發展做適當的評估。除此之外,雙色分光技術是屬於極尖端光電科技產物。此計畫將與國內外相關機構合作,並引進相關技術,而提昇國內整體的光電產業技術。本計畫所有儀器完成後,將開放給國內所有天文及相關領域研究人員使用,預期能大幅提高國內相關領域的研究能力。 The Graduate Institute of Astronomy of National Central University is currently building a 2-meter telescope for astronomical research. This telescope will be installed at Lulin observatory and will be the largest telescope ever built in Taiwan. This telescope will provide great opportunities of astronomical observations for astronomers in Taiwan and East Asia and will also serve as a platform for local instrumentation, education, and outreach activities. Nonetheless, the success of this telescope would mainly depend on the frontier scientific results that this telescope can produce. A 2-meter telescope, although will be the largest one in Taiwan and among the largest telescopes in East Asia, is only a medium-size telescope among the astronomy community in the world. To fully utilize the 2-meter telescope to do the most frontier science and to compete with other larger telescopes, we thus require some unique instruments, which can provide special chances to study the cutting-edge science that other larger telescopes cannot. In this proposal, we propose to build a dichroic imaging detector at optical bands. This optical imaging detector is designed to have simultaneous optical bands that are the same as those of the Panoramic Survey Telescope And Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) survey. Such a design enable us not only to do individual optical observational projects but also to fully utilize the first-hand Pan-STARRS results, such as to make immediately follow-ups for some important discovery. Since Lulin observatory is the first observatory that can do follow-up observations for any variable events discovered by Pan-STARRS, we expect that the 2-meter telescope equipped with a dichroic optical detector will be able to produce lots of important astronomical discoveries. We also propose to build a coating facility at the observatory to maintain the operation of the telescope. The mirrors of the telescope need regular recoating to retain its high-quality reflectivity. However, it is very difficult to send the mirrors out off the mountain to do recoating because there is no road to go to the observatory. Besides, there is no large enough coating facility to do regular coating for the 2-meter mirror in Taiwan currently. We thus need to build a large enough coating facility at the Lulin mountain for regular coatings of the mirrors of the telescope. Once built, the coating facility will be the largest coating facility in Taiwan. This facility can also provide unique coating operations for other research equipments that require large coating facility. Besides optical observations, we also expect to extend the horizon of observations at Lulin to near infrared. Given the rapid advancement of near infrared instruments and the wealth content of astronomical information at near infrared, it is quite natural to develop near-infrared observing facilities at Lulin. However, no near-infrared observation has been conducted at Lulin; it is thus unclear whether Lulin is a suitable site to develop near-infrared observations. We thus propose to perform a feasibility study for possible future near infrared facilities at Lulin. The instruments will be open to all researchers of astronomy and related fields based on peer-review competition. We expect that these instruments will become significant promoters of astronomical and related researches in Taiwan. 研究期間:9612 ~ 9711
