Abstract:	本文藉由北投溫泉的研究來探討日治時期文化經驗的移植過程。溫泉所象徵的「潔淨」概念，一方面傳輸了日本的衛生觀念；另一方面也在不知不覺之中，塑造出一種屬於日本的文化經驗。這種文化經驗一方面強化了作為統治階級優越地位的意識形態，鞏固他們對母國與天皇的效忠；被殖民的臺灣人則受到這種文化經驗的影響，進而對殖民者產生認同。溫泉成了這種意識形態的宣傳工具，將日本文化和階級觀念引進臺灣，建構出新秩序和文化。另ㄧ方面，本文想從溫泉研究中找出殖民政府如何主導、應用溫泉所帶來的新的動線和文化，並由此再現當時城市的休閒結構，重新看過去所不為人注意，卻是真實城市生活的面貌，如果我們可以從「休閒」的經驗和需求來看一個城市，可能會產生一個完全不同的都市地理圖像，筆者將休閒經驗拉回日治時期的北投，逐步嘗試建立以休閒為主的都市歷史。
