This 3-year project continues our series experimental researches on micro-structure and motion in the liquid system and in waves excited in dusty plasma liquid. The dusty plasma liquid (DPL) can be formed by micro-meter sized dust particles negatively charged and suspended in low pressure gaseous discharges. The capability of direct dust tracking through optical microscopy makes it a good platform to mimic and understand the generic behaviors of the micro-dynamics of liquids at the kinetic level. After our past studies on the micro-structures and motions in the 2D dusty plasma liquids, we started, in the past three years, the research on the thermal induced chain-dynamics in the 2+1 D chain bundle dusty plasma liquids using a digital stereo particle tacking system. The 2+1 D chain bundle dusty plasma liquid is constituted by the long vertical dust chains induced by dipole field through the vertical ion wake effect. It is a good platform to understand the generic micro-behavior of the 2+1 D chain bundle liquid such as the electro-rheological liquids, magnetic colloidal suspensions, polymer brushes, etc. We also investigated the particle micro-dynamics and particle-wave interaction in the large amplitude nonlinear dust acoustic wave and pulsed laser induced micro-plasma bubble in sub-excited dusty plasma liquids to shed light on the understanding of wave-particle dynamics for other nonlinear acoustic type wave excitations. In this new project, we will continue our researches on the 2+1 D chain bundle dusty plasma liquid. We will use laser induced external shear to investigate the propagation of the nonlinear transverse wave along the chain, shear induced chain breaking, the transient dynamics of quenching the system to the cold liquid or glassy state, and the predictability of the avalanche type structural rearrangement. On the other hand, we will further investigate the nonlinear wave dynamics such as the statistical features of dust acoustic wave turbulence, the particle-wave interaction in wave turbulence, the collective wave excitations by ultra-sonic intruders in the dusty plasma, the intruder-wave interaction, and the bubble-wave interactions, etc.. The studies on the above unexplored issues are not only important for the dusty plasma physics, but also should be able to shed some light on understanding the generic nonlinear behaviors in other corresponding nonlinear extended complex systems. The investigation will mainly be conducted experimentally.
