; The proposed two-year, integrated project will collect and analyze the events and data of the potential submarine earthquakes and landslides around Taiwan, and assess the consequent possible tsunami hazards. The principal investigators of the research team consist of faculty members from the National Central University: Wu-Ting Tsai, Kuo-Fong Ma, Shu-Kun Hsu, Chung-Pai Chang, Po-Fei Chen, Tso-Ren Wu; and Director Yeuh-Jiuan Hsu from Central Weather Bureau. The proposed three major research tasks can be summarized as follow: 1. Synthesize and analyze the historic tsunami events and the collected earthquake data; and conduct scenario tsunami propagation simulations to understand the potential tsunamis generated by submarine earthquakes. 2. Survey the possible submarine landslides locations and magnitudes offshore Taiwan; and conduct scenario tsunami propagation simulations to understand the potential tsunami caused submarine landslides. 3. Use satellite images to extract coastal area topography and to estimate tsunami inundation map.
