; The Tatun Volcano Group (TVG) is located at the northern tip of Taiwan, near the capital Taipei and close to important industrial/financial sites. Because of lack of any activity in historical times it has been classified as an extinct volcano, even though more recent studies suggest that TVG might have been active during the last 20 ka. In this proposal we aim at studying TVG in a multi-disciplinary manner in an effort to understand the mechanism of its seismicity, deformation and degassing patterns. We plan to achieve that by employing the following approaches: (a) analysis of seismological data in order to resolve time and space characteristics of seismicity; (b) geochemical analysis of gas samples from fumaroles in the TVG area, in order to find periods of possible anomalous gas compositions; (c) collection and analysis of GPS data in order to highlight any aseismic deformation taking place at TVG; and (d) collection and analysis of gravity measurements in order to infer possible changes in the gravity field around TVG due to the movement of magmatic fluids. Finally, all these datasets will be jointly evaluated for the purpose of assessing time periods of anomalous measurements and for establishing future volcano monitoring programs for TVG.
