; As technologies evolve, the development and applications of geoinformatics have extended from conventional twodimensional system to threeand multidimensional and dynamic aspects. In particular, Information Visualization has motivated the development of visualenabled intuitive environments for the operations and analysis in geoinformatic systems; while new generation network technologies such as 3G communications and WiMAX have further increase the availability of information exchange and delivery. Therefore, the coupling of sophisticated geoinformatic systems, visualization and network has a great potential to improve the performance and extend their applications. This project proposes to undertake the research and development in related topics for combining geoinformatics, information visualization and networking in order to implement networkbased mobile geoinformatic systems for visualenabled Cyber City applications. Emphases will be placed on improving the photorealism and performance of the systems. Issues to address include high performance LOD (Level of Detail) for terrain and building models, facade texture generation and mapping, data integration and progressive transmission, networkbased and embedded application implementation. Advanced topics will also be addressed, including semantic image matching, digital inpainting, COLLADA and X3D data schema for 3D digital contents. The results of this research project will provide uses a visualenabled, intuitive and highperformance platform for caring out advanced geospatial information demonstration, analysis, modeling and other tasks over network or with mobile devices. They will also facilitate sophisticated Cyber City applications such as virtual city touring, urban and landscape management and planning, disaster evaluation and mitigation, intelligent transportation and navigation etc.
