    Title: 參與CMS實驗建造Preshower探測器---總計畫---參與CMS實驗建造Preshower探測器---子計畫二---中央大學團隊物理分析計劃

    Abstract: 本子計畫為中央大學實驗高能物理組參與在歐洲粒子物理中心(CERN)的大型強子對撞機LHC 中的CMS 物理分析。Higgs 為標準模型中至今唯一未被實驗物理學家證實的粒子。明年(2008)大型強子對撞機LHC 啟動後,解釋質量場的場介子Higgs 極有可能在CMS 和ATLAS 實驗中被發現。在pp 碰撞中,夸克透過s-channel 或t-channel 的主要反應中間態隨著其能量依序為高能單玻色子W, Z, 與雙玻色子WW,WZ, ZZ 等;而各別的W 與Z 會再衰變W→l,jj;Z→ll,jj。由以上這些中間態所形成的終態是WH,ZH 或是SUSY 的可能背景,而且也是檢驗標準模型的重要訊號,其中三重玻色子耦合Trilinear Gauge Coupling (TGC) Z, ZZ,與ZZZ 更是標準模型所沒有的耦合可能。去年我們加入CMS 的弱電物理分析組(electroweak analysis group)並選取背景最低訊號最乾淨的ZZ→ 4 e 作為我們參與物理分析的初步工作,對此作詳細的分析可以推斷碰撞是否與標準模型的預測一致?最近我們會完成本分析的CMS 的 internal note,本計劃我們將對pp → WZ與pp → ZZ → 2 leptons2 jets 分析;並參與收尋Higgs  的分析。本組在物理分析的主要策略有(一)要證實新的物理現象,必須對已知的基礎有深刻的實證與了解,這除了對物理分析技巧的精進之外,重要的是用這些基本事例來了解 CMS 探測器的效率與辨別率,方能掌握創新的契機。(二)本組認為在LHC 加速器初運轉的期間,不應該把分析主力放在訊號背景比過小或不可測因素過大的事件上。所以先以W, Z, WW, WZ, ZZ 做為我們CMS 物理分析入門的工作。(三)在新物理Higgs 搜尋的分析上,配合我們的硬體計畫,專攻Higgs  的分析,去年pre-shower 原型探測器的H2 束流測試分析由本組負責,目前也完成90%的分析,也因此本組對此探測器的了解與掌握更勝於其他單位,這也讓我們在Higgs  的分析上占有絕對的優勢。本計劃的主要工作摘要如下: 1. 完成H2 束流測試分析的CMS internal report。 2. 完成ZZ→ 4 e 的CMS internal report。 3. 繼續參與CMS 弱電物理組的pp → WZ分析工作,並對噴流Jet 做進一步的分析。 4. 配合我們以完成的硬體計畫,開始Higgs  的分析。 5. 與台灣大學實驗高能物理合作,搜尋可能的第四代輕子b’。 ; We, the NCU HEP group, propose this sub-project on physics analysis in CMS experiment of Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The Higgs boson is the only missing block in the standard model. And LHC may have the chance to discover it or beyond our expectation. We propose to continue the study of di-boson channel and extend to single boson + radiate γ (Wγ, Zγ) and Higgs search. Last year we have studied pp → di-boson → ZZ→ 4 μ or 2 μ + 2 e. The preliminary result shows the clean signal without any significant background. In the coming fiscal year, we propose to analysis di-boson → ZZ, WZ with final particles with jets or neutrinos. The jet study is important not only because of its bigger cross section comparison to the lepton channels, but also the jet-study is crucial in SUSY, Higgs search and the 4th generation studies. In the meantime, we will also start our analysis on the leading order channels like Wγ and Zγ. Since NCU HEP takes in charge of CMS pre-shower sub-detector, we will take this advantage in the Higgs search particularly in Higgs decays into two energetic γ’s. Since the energetic π0 → γγ may be identified as an energetic γ if the spatial resolution of the two decayed γ’s from energetic π0 can not be achieved. The pre-shower silicon detectors provide a spatial resolution up to 20μm for 70 GeV π0. The major tasks of this fiscal year are followings, 1. Complete Di-boson ZZ 4-muon and 2-muon + 2-electron channels and prepare the CMS internal note. 2. Start Di-boson ZZ semi-leptonic channels with jet and/or neutrino. 3. Continue the b’ analysis study. 4. Start Boson+γ, e.g.Wγ and Zγ studies. 5. Higgs→ γγ ; 研究期間 9708 ~ 9807
