中大實驗高能物理組(NCUHEP)與台大實驗高能物理組 (NTUHEP)合作,參與歐洲粒子物理中心(CERN)的大強子對撞機 (LHC)的CMS 實驗。此計劃我們與印度、希臘和俄羅斯共同承製End cap pre-shower 偵測器。中大負責矽探測器的研發、製作、測試、組裝與監控。而台大負責後端的電子讀出系統。在此架構下,整體的分工是有其必要的。因為國內兩校的通力合作,我們在CMS 實驗的pre-shower 次探測器組中是唯一對此探測器的整體架構能完全掌握的國家。從矽探測器的研製與測試,到組裝、整體測試到電子讀出系統與監控系統等都是由我們主導,爾後的數據監控也由我們負責。這是我們的對物理分析的優勢。在LHC 成功的試運轉和隨即加速器第三段(sector 3)氦氣閥的熔損意外之後,以目前樂觀的估計,LHC 將將延至明年九月方可開始作束流對撞產生可分析的數據。隨著偵測器硬體的陸續完成,本年度計劃可分為兩部分,硬體部分包括pre-shower 偵測器在roll in 後的運作(operation)、維護(maintenances)、監控 (monitoring) 與數據可靠度的分析(Data Quality Monitoring, DQM)。物理分析部分則延續去年的雙玻色子分析。 ; Supported by National Science Council, the experimental high energy group of National Central University (NCUHEP) and the experimental high energy group of National Taiwan University (NTUHEP) join the CMS experiment in ECAL sub-system called pre-shower detector at CERN LHC. This is a long term international project. The pre-shower project is supported by India, Greece, Russia and Taiwan that provide all the silicon sensors for pre-shower detector and preliminary assembly. NCUHEP takes in charge of silicon sensor design, manufacturing, testing, assembling, monitoring and maintenances. And NTUHEP provides the readout electronics design and mother board manufacturing. NCU started this project of silicon sensor design in 2002. Later on NTU join in electronics development. Since we have very close cooperation, Taiwan becomes the only group that involve from the beginning to the end of the pre-shower detector. The two groups dominate not only in the sensor design and beam test but also in assembly and monitoring. This enable us to handle the pre-shower data quality monitoring in physics run. And this is also our advantage of physics data analysis. After the success of LHC pilot run and the later on disaster of melting the helium valve in sector 3, LHC is going to postpone its physics run in 2009 September. We expect to complete all the pre-shower detector assembly in March 2009. After then, we will shift our effort in physics analysis and pre-shower detector monitoring and maintenances. In this sub-project, we propose to join the data analysis effort in di-boson group, especially in ZZand Weand pre-shower data quality monitoring. For the hardware, we will continue the pre-shower operation and maintenances to guarantee its functioning. ; 研究期間 9808 ~ 9907
