This dissertation would analyze Mr. Chen Yong-Tao’s (陳永淘) creative Hakka songs. Mr. Chen, famed as a Hakka “Chanting Poet”, is a contemporary well-known singer with his creative Hakka songs, along with 4 CD albums being published. The research materials will mainly focus on his already circulated 72 songs—exploring specific features through 4 aspects: his life experience corresponding to his main ideas in songs, wording styles, rhetoric, and harmonic poetry and music.
The dissertation is divided into 6 chapters:
Chapter 1: The preface—explains research motive and purpose, proceedings and bibliographic list. Chapter 2: Mr. Chen’s life experience and major ideas in songs—explores the relationships among the author, songs and environment, then concluded into 6 theme styles.Chapter 3: Wording arrangement and vocabulary analysis—Categorize and analyze songs’ wording style with researching viewpoints of stylistics in vocabularies. Chapter 4: Rhetoric on songs—Take semantic adjustment on expressive ways and delicate design to analyze Mr. Chen’s 13 kinds of rhetoric styles.Chapter 5: Harmonic poetry and music—Harmonic analysis on language tones and music tunes. Use analytical tune degrees to induce several models, then take some songs to analyze lyrics sentence by sentence. The harmonic relationship between language tones and music tunes in Mr. Chen’s Hakka songs could be found.Chapter 6: Conclusion—Summary of the research accomplishment.
