Abstract: 研究期間:10108~10207;With the rapid growth of networking technologies and the advances of data compression, a large number of multimedia files are transmitted, shared and downloaded. Due to the high commercial values and entertainment, digital videos are popular and watching digital video streams has become a common activity in our daily life. Such video sharing platforms as Youtube or Tudou make a lot of videos available to users. Although the users do enjoy the convenience from the digital video streaming, the illegal spreading of copyrighted videos draws concerns from content owners or creators. Digital Rights Management is thus an important issue nowadays. Digital watermark is proposed as a tool for protecting the intellectual property rights and can be viewed as a technological final defense line. One of the functions of digital watermark is transaction tracking. That is, the content owner or distributor will embed the watermark or fingerprint, which represents the identity of the licensed recipient, into the digital videos. Once an illegal copy is found on the network, we may detect the watermark and trace the origin of illegal distribution. On the other hand, when the users know that such mechanism is implemented, they may become hesitant distributing copyrighted contents. In this research, we propose a practical fingerprinting scheme for digital video streams. We embed the watermarks into widely used MPEG-4 and H.264 videos. In order to avoid the heavy computational burden in the video servers, the watermark is embedded into partially decoded quantization indices so that the computationally expensive coding procedures such as motion estimation may not be repeated. To prevent generating the drift errors, the watermark signal will be embedded into the areas that are not used as the reference of other data. In addition, we still adopt the blind watermark detection without resorting to the original video to ensure the feasibility and the justification of detection. The feature or interest point detection will be applied along with the embedding of the synchronization patterns such that the watermark can reasonably resist trans-coding procedures that result in different frame sizes or shapes. The visibility, capacity, false alarm rate, the detection methodology and attacks of watermarks will be examined so that our design can surely satisfy the requirements of such applications.
