Abstract: 研究期間:10108~10207;This two-year project aims to develop and evaluate the implementation of the continuous improvement mechanism of engineering education accreditation system in Taiwan. To set the stage for internationalization of engineering accreditation in Taiwan, first we synthesized the commonalities and differences between accreditation criteria of Washington Accord Signatories and EUR-ACE in order to capitalize on current developments of international accreditation criteria. Next, we wish to implement the CDIO (Conceiving, Designing, Implementing, and Operating) approach, which is a complex value-added engineering products, processes and systems in a team-based environment. Its initiative has launched a benchmarking among world-wide collaboration of engineering programs at universities in more than 16 countries. Therefore, benchmarking analysis will be conducting among the accreditation systems of Taiwan, other Washington Accord signatories, as well as EUR-ACE accreditation body. This international collaboration project originally was planned and spanned for three years. This project proposal consists of the second- and third-year plan and is divided into three main aspects: 1. Exploration of the Effectiveness of Outcomes-based Accreditation Approcah: This purpose of the study was reached in the year of 2011, preliminary results have revealed that after the implementation of the accreditation system in engineering education, the teaching styles of professors did change and are able to achieve 70% satisfactory results regarding outcomes-based teaching and assessment. However, there are still many problems faculties were encountered during the instructional revolution which still requiring further exploration through in-depth interviews. 2. Establishment of Outcomes-basedTeaching and Assessment Continuous Imporovement Mechanism: The second year of this project plans to construct a "CDIO Enhanced Educational Platform." In the year 2012, wee plans to implement benchmarking analysis to search for benchmarking best practice groups in order to enhance improvement actions. The performance indicators and assessment rubrics for evaluating the student learning outcomes will also be provided on this platform in order to assist teachers’ to self- improve their own courses. 3. Cooperation with the Regional Teaching Resource Centers to Enhance Quality Assurance: Finally, in the year 2013, we plan to cooperate with the regional teaching resource centers regarding the promotion of the quality assurance of engineering education. Meanwhile, we wish to invite the President of ABET, Dr. David Holger, to present a keynote speech and share ABET’s successful experiences in continuous improvement. With the partnerships of the interdisciplinary researchers, this project wishes to provide effective recommendations for continuous improvements of outcomes-based accreditation approach in Taiwan.
