    Title: 亞洲大氣污染物之長程輸送與衝擊研究-第四期;參與國際7SEAS計畫-東亞區域背景及長程傳輸事件氣膠觀測;On the Observation of Aerosol under Regional Background and from Long-Range Transport in East Asia

    Abstract: 研究期間:10108~10207;This proposal plans to observe physical and chemical characteristics of high-elevation aerosol at Mountain Lulin (2,900 m regional/transboundary) atmospheric background station in three years. During three-year study period, in addition to regular aerosol observation, this proposal will join with the main proposal to participate in 7-SEAS 2013 international intensive observation work in the first year. The observation sites include Doi Inthanon (2,500 m, biomass burning source area) in Chiangmail mountain area in Thailand, Son La weather observatory (670 m, downwind site for sources in China mainland) in north Viet Nan, and Dongsha island environment monitoring site (remote background area in South China Sea). Additional post-7-SEAS 2014 and post-7-SEAS 2015 international intensive observation work will also be conducted in the second and the third years, respectively. The aforementioned work is scheduled to finish in three years; however, only one year funding is applied for the first year to comply with the planning of the main proposal. The observation results will be used to differentiate marine and mountain aerosol characteristics during event (biomass burning transport and Asian outflow) and non-event (regional background) periods. A Hygroscopic Differential Mobility Analyzer (HTDMA) will be assembled and tested in the first year. This HTDMA will help measure aerosol deliquescence and re-crystallization size spectra and assess aerosol capability as cloud condensation nuclei at the high elevation site. Moreover, this project will also investigate the measured organic substances such as aerosol carbonaceous content, water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), humic like substance (HULIS), and water-soluble inorganic ions on the measured high-elevation aerosol water content. In summary, this project will utilize comprehensive monitoring data to study background aerosol in East Asia, transported biomass burning aerosol, and aerosol characteristics before and after a cloud event.
