;Quality of subcontractors is always critical to determine if construction projects succeed. Effective evaluation toward subcontractors is important but mostly still limited due to inaccessibility of empirical cases. The objective of the study is to conduct an empirical analysis of evaluating subcontractors for construction projects. Previous studies showed a guideline regarding what are the keys and how an evaluation performs. Expertise obtained from interviews forms a solid evaluation format for subcontractors and assists empirical data collection in facilitating further analysis. A total of 800 sets of subcontractors’ evaluations from 25 medium to large sized construction projects were collected including 597 sets regular evaluations, and 203 sets project completion evaluations. The analysis results indicate that (1) timely delivery is key that significantly affects projects for material vendors; (2) working altitude outweighs among all factors for manpower providers; (3) safety and quality may be partially sacrificed due to compacted schedule; and (4) financial distress to subcontractors should be weighted.
