;In recent years, robots have been widely used in various fields. In the field of education, many of the efficient teaching/learning methods have been developed compared with traditional teaching/learning methods based on the application of the robotic technology. The aim of this study was to develop the digital theater environment with robots to explore how robots can interact with students while performing drama-based activities in the digital theater that can improve students’ engagement and help them to learn. The subject of 50 students for the experiments of this study was the grade three students of two classes in ‘Dalun junior high school’ of Taoyuan City and 24 of them were in experimental groups and other 26 were in control group. The experiment conducted for the experimental group was facilitated with the digital theater including a robot. The functionality of the robot is to ask questions from the students based on the dramatic performance on the virtual stage of the digital theater and the students had opportunity to interact with the robot in close proximity. The students in the control group have to use the digital theater without robots. Both groups were assisted by the teacher. Both the experimental group and the control group were tested before and after the experiment and the questionnaire was filled out to facilitate analysis of the difference in the learning process between the two groups. When analyzing the pre-test and the post-test data, there was a significantly higher progress in the experimental group than the control group. Answers for the collected questionnaire revealed that the experimental group have participated to the learning process with more interaction, greater concentration, more interest, and willingness to learn. This study concludes that the intrinsic robot allows students to learn better in digital theater.
