    Title: 臺菲(VOTE TWG)國合計畫-台菲島弧系統的地體動力學研究;Integrative Studies on the Geodynamics of the Philippine and Taiwan Arc Systems( I )

    Abstract: 台灣與菲律賓間的地體構造屬於一相當複雜的板塊邊界帶,菲律賓海板塊向 西北與歐亞大陸板塊聚合,而南海地殼沿馬尼拉海溝向東隱沒到菲律賓活動帶下 方,造成無數的地震及同震抬升海岸現象,且馬尼拉隱沒帶被視為一產生大地震 及海嘯威脅很大的地區。另外在菲律賓群島中部的宿霧與薄荷島區域,目前仍未 被完全了解的數條活動構造也因地震造成了這些島嶼的抬升。因此,此整合計畫 主要期望完整調查菲律賓西側隱沒帶的島弧系統及隱沒作用,了解地殼的構造及 形變,進而幫助理解未來可能的危險地震構造區塊。 此整合型計畫含三個子計畫。子計畫一將結合銷石的鈾鉛定年、低溫定年、地震、GPS等 資料分析歐亞大陸板塊東緣的構造演化歷史。子計畫二是針對菲律賓群島中部,對於宿 霧與薄荷島區域的海岸構造抬升現象進行分析,同時將研究範圍擴大到這些島嶼 區域的整體的新構造運動特性。並針對海岸階地與各種抬升的海水面指示地形構 造進行詳細的調查與測量,以了解菲律賓群島中部區域的板塊聚合應力分布。子 計畫三分兩部分,第一部分屬於陸上工作,調查宿霧島(Cebu)的地質工作,由於 宿霧島是較老的地質環境,對於宿霧島的地質研究有助於了解隱沒的作用過程。 第二部分是要調查馬尼拉隱沒帶南端及及附近的地殼構造和隱沒作用,以了解現 今的隱沒作用,另外也可了解如何由隱沒作用轉為在明多羅島的碰撞作用,同時 也可了解南海的南部地殼構造和演化。 ;Taiwan and the Philippines are located in a very complex geodynamic context where the Philippine Sea Plate is converging northwestward toward the Eurasian Plate. Meanwhile, The South China Sea lithosphere is subducting eastward beneath the Luzon volcanic arc and Philippine mobile belt until the Mindoro Island. In consequence, the active convergence has generated enormous earthquakes and co-seismic uplifts of Luzon Island coast. Furthermore, the Manila subduction is considered as one of most risky areas for great earthquakes and tsunamis in the near future. However, there are still several active faults and uplifted islands in the middle Philippines area (Visayas) such as Cebu and Bohol islands. Therefore, we expect to have a more complete study of the whole western Philippine subduction system. By understanding the crustal structures and the deformations, this integrated project can help identify risky seismogenic areas. This integrated projects consists of 3 sub-projects. In the first sub-project we will combine with U-Pb dating, Hf isotope, low temperature thermochronology, earthquake, and GPS data to comprehensive reveal the tectonic evolution along the eastern margin of Eurasia plate since the Mesozoic. In the second sub-project we will focus on uplifted structures of the coastal areas in the Visayan islands, especially Cebu and Bohol islands. By analysis the marine terraces and other uplifted indicators, we may understand the stress pattern in the Visayan islands. The third sub-project contains two parts. First one is to study the general geology of the Cebu Island. The Cebu Island comprises the oldest geologic environment and may provide critical information to understand the subduction process and volcanism. The second part is to study the southernmost portion of the Manila Trench and the SE South China Sea. The manila Trench terminates near the Mindoro Island and the plate subduction transfers into plate collision, similar to Taiwan orogenic belt. Thus, understanding this area can help understand not only the crustal structures of the SE South China Sea, but also of the Manila Trench system.
