;This project defines Malaysian Hakka belt as an ethnic group space. It focuses on Kuala Lumpur and Seremban which produce tin ore, and treats Hakka people as the main subjects. Through industrial and religious lives, it analyzes interaction between Hakka and different ethnic groups, including internal different groups of Hakka (classified by ancestral home), Hakka and other non-Hakka Chinese groups (Guangfu, Teochew and Hainan), Hakka and Malay people and Hakka and minority aboriginals. Finally, by three types of ethnic group relationship, it attempts to explore overall ethnic group relationship and the development: harmony, tension, conflict, separation or sometimes harmonious, sometimes tense or sometimes confronting or separation according to situations or contexts. Past related research mostly focused on Chinese internal ethnic group relationship of different origins of home. The originality of this study is the following: (1) it emphasizes internal difference of Hakka, (2) it explores ethnical interaction among Hakka, Chinese, Malay people and minority aboriginals. It not only reinforces overseas Hakka study, but also completely recognizes ethnic group relationship in Malaysia. As to theoretical perspectives, it applies the original ethnic group related theory. Besides, this project also attempts to include theory and analytical technique of human geography space in order to construct concept or theory of “ethnic group space” in order to strengthen theory related to Hakka, overseas Chinese, immigrants, etc. |
