;The United States National Academies published a ten-year strategic report on Earth observation in 2018 that mentions the scientific urgency of mastering the planetary boundary layer (PBL) and the lower troposphere. The project proposes the Unmanned Aerial System as the main tool for low-level atmospheric observations, participating in the 7-SEAS international observation experiment, and exploring the scientific topics of the vertical diffusion, trans-PBL transport and aerosol-cloud interaction of springtime Indochinese biomass-burning aerosols. We will analyze the data from 2019 Chiang Mai UAV experiment. From the data analysis, we will explore the correlation between the aerosol vertical distribution and meteorological factors, explain the vertical diffusion and evolution behavior of aerosol plume under the influence of PBL thermodynamic mechanism. We will also try to study the process of air exchanging between PBL and free atmospheric air either qualitatively or quantitatively. In addition, we will develop an unmanned aircraft with an observational capability to resolves the entrainment of the free atmosphere to the PBL and the aerosol-cloud interaction. The UAV implementation will be specifically applied to the 2020 7-SEAS field deployment in Yen Bai, Vietnam. Finally, we will integrate UAV, ground-based remote sensing and satellite observation to assess the research topic of aerosol-cloud interactions, and assist in the development of future model simulation.
