    Abstract: WiMAX的全名是微波存取全球互通(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access),是以IEEE 802.16 的系列寬頻無線標準為基礎,利用高效率無線訊號傳輸與處理技術,具備了傳輸距離長(最遠可達50公里)、傳輸速率高(最快可達70Mbps)、快速布建、低成本等特性,適於提供中距離無線傳輸服務,可做為無線高速接取網路的媒介。 由於WiMAX是開發中國家快速布建網路的良好選擇,也可擔任將802.11(WiFi)無線接取熱點(Hot Spot)連接到網路的媒介、或是企業與住家等環境實現最後一哩(Last Mile)的方案,目前已成為全球無線通訊產業的關注焦點。 在WiMAX 的系統裡,一個用戶端或基地台可同時擁有多個連線識別(Connection identifier ;CID),隨著網路服務的發達,在傳輸服務的大量使用下,如何減少CID的使用量,將會是一個重要的課題。 本篇論文主要提出在WiMAX MAC層中,進入ATM CS(Convergence sublayer)的cell以Skip Cell Merge 或 Control Cell Merge 方法,將進入的cell做資料彙整(merge),使原本需使用多個CID,經資料彙整後,只需共用一個CID,達到減少CID的使用量,讓基地台能服務更多的用戶端,而且減少CID的使用量也能達到節省頻寬的效果。 WiMAX, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunication technology based on IEEE 802.16, Broadband Wireless Access Standards, utilizing highly efficient wireless signaling transmission and processing technology. WiMAX has characteristics of long distance transmission up to 50 KM, high speed transmission up to 70 Mbps, simple deployment, and low cost. It is suitable for providing medium distance wireless transmission services and a media to the internet using high speed wireless connection. Since WiMAX provides an excellent choice for the developing countries to swiftly deploy their network infrastructure, plays as a media of 802.11 WiFi Hot Spot connecting to the internet, or achieves the delivery of last mile for business and residential area, it is now a focal point of global wireless and telecommunication industry. In WiMax system, a terminal or a station can have multiple CIDs at the same time. With the growth of network services, reducing the amount of CID utilization has become an important study. In goal of the thesis is to reduce the amount of CID utilization by merging the cells entering ATM Convergence sublayer using Skip Cell Merge or Control Cell Merge methods. As the results, each station can serve more terminals and amount of CID utilization is reduced; therefore the bandwidth is reduced.
