由於兒童的健康狀況令人擔憂，普遍存在營養不良（營養不足及營養過剩）的現象，若不及早防治，未來將可能增加家庭與社會醫療的支出。而家庭是兒童及青少年健康照護的基本社會單位，家庭教育是一切教育的根本，對兒童及青少年而言影響最深的因素是家庭。因此本研究欲探討父母教育程度、健康知識與其子女健康狀況之關聯。本研究的實證資料來源為民國八十二年至八十五年之『第一次國民營養健康狀況變遷調查』。我們篩選同一家戶中父母及子女的資料，以子女的身體質量指數（BMI）為兒童及青少年健康狀況之代表，運用multinomial logit model，實證分析父母的教育及健康知識對子女健康的影響。其中，父母的健康知識可能會具有內生性的問題。在考量內生性問題後，本研究實證結果發現，在兒童及青少年過瘦組，父母健康知識對體重的影響符合一般概念，健康知識愈正確愈多，健康狀況不良的機會愈低，但是在兒童及青少年過重組未達顯著影響。父母教育程度的估計係數符號，在過瘦的兒童及青少年組為顯著正號；在過重的兒童及青少年部分並不顯著，亦即父母教育程度愈高，其子女愈瘦的可能性愈高，並達到統計上的顯著水準，對子女過重或肥胖的傾向無影響。
