The purpose of this study is to develop a motorcycle riding simulator and applied it to explore the effect of uneven road on the riding process of spinal cord injury riders .To investigate the relationship among the unbalanced disturbance caused by road obstructions, postural stability and riding performance of riders, it could be used as an educational reference before spinal cord injury riders starting to ride on the road in the future. Motorcycle riding simulator was installed at an uniaxial pneumatic platform, to simulate the change of acceleration caused by the uneven road. And then installed load cell below the seat to measure the center of pressure(COP) movement to assess the state of postural balance of the subject, The experiment was proceeding by virtual reality, and continually recorded the riding performance of riders in the process. Subjects were 5 SCIs whose level of injury were between T4 to L2 and 12 normals . Through statistical analysis can be found that the change of the acceleration of human body caused by the simulation platform and actually riding a motorcycle pass through bulge obstacle have the similar tendency, so it can prove that the capability of riding simulator could simulate the change of the acceleration of human body caused by reality. Besides, it also found that no matter the hollow hole or the bulge obstacle which both have the effect on spinal cord injury, which including postural stability and riding performance. To compare with the smooth road , uneven road was prone to contribute to the change of the center of pressure of SCIs as well as lane departure.
