The ORR activity of Ce-modified Pt(50)Au(50)/C alloy catalysts, compared to commercial Pt/C, can be promoted by H(2) treatment at 520 K due to the surface and structural alteration by reduction of surface oxides, an increase in the surface composition of metallic Pt, and H(2) induced surface Au segregation.
