Abstract: 研究期間:10108~10207;Over a half century there has been a rapid development in the field of Chinese dialectology. The newly published monographs, dictionaries, linguistic reports, and countless journal papers have greatly enriched our overall understanding of the most populous branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages. But even after the achievement of comparative Min phonology and Common Min vocabulary is gradually reaching the consensus, we still have to dig out more linguistic facts about Min dialects in Taiwan, Fujian, Guangdong and Hainan. This two-year plan is going to conduct a more detailed survey on some Quanzhou-type and Zhangzhou-type dialects in Fujian. We will keep a record of the Quanzhou-type Sanyi dialects (Jinjiang晉江, Nan’an南安, Hui’an惠安), focusing on the dialectal differences in phonology and lexicon. On the other hand, the lexicon, grammar, phonology, and tone sandhi pattern of Yunxiao 雲霄, a less-studied western Zhangzhou-type dialects in southern Fujian will be carry out. Published materials include Zhou Changji (1986), Ang Ui-jin (1993, 2009), Lin Baoqing (1998) and dialect reports in the county Gazetteers. Existing data gave us a simplistic and not-so-clear picture, uncertainty and inconsistency exist, and one report contradicts the other one. Critical reviews by Li Chung-min (2011a, b) suggest geo-linguistic differences within Sanyi area should be surveyed as soon as possible. The only way to verify these records is to carry out fieldwork in Fujian. Due to their linguistic importance in comparative Southern Min (with çu, çm, çp, E))), u") rhymes and a three-way contrast of E: iei/ei: e), the phonological and lexical details of Yunxiao need a thorough description.
