英國鄉間別墅景觀畫作,對於英國風景畫從十八世紀初到十九世紀中的發展,具有相當重要意義。身為為英國幾乎是最知名的重要風景畫家代表,J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851)與John Constable (1776-1837)也留下一些鄉間別墅景觀畫作,然而自二十世紀以來,此類畫作在Turner與Constable相關展覽與著作中卻受忽視。本計劃以三年為期,全面深入探討Turner與Constable及其同代畫家的鄉間別墅景觀畫作,並省視其在兩個世紀中所受到的評價變化。計畫第一年以Turner為主,第二年以Constable為主,並擴及其他同代畫家,廣泛蒐羅並分析其鄉間別墅景觀畫作,探討此類畫作在十九世紀的製作與接受狀況。第三年則考察鄉間別墅景觀畫作的出版史與展覽史,探究此類畫作自十九世紀至今的評價變化。研究結果不只釐清鄉間別墅風景畫作的發展軌跡,亦將有助於吾人省思觀看英國代表畫家的方式與思考架構。 ;Paintings of country houses are of great significance for the development of British landscape paintings from the early 18th century to the mid-19th century. As the most famous painters of British landscape paintings, J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) and John Constable (1776-1837) also left some country house paintings. However, since the 20th century, such paintings have been ignored in exhibitions devoted to Turner and Constable. This three-year project aims to explore the landscape paintings of country houses by Turner, Constable, and their contemporaries, and to reflect on the changing evaluation of such paintings during the last two centuries. The first year of the project focuses on Turner; the second year focuses on Constable and extends to other contemporary painters. The third year will explore the histories of publication and exhibition of country house paintings, and to examine the changing evaluation of such paintings from the 19th century to the present day. The results of the research will not only clarify the development of country house landscape paintings, but also provide a framework to reflect on the way of seeing representative British painters.
