Due to the problems of global warming and climate change, countries all over the world are facing abnormal weather conditions that result in more frequent and severe tests of the disasters. It becomes a global common effort for all the countries to reduce the carbon emission and then to slow down the trend of global warming. As part of the society, the construction industry also should looks for ways to reduce the carbon emission in the process of building construction projects.
This study develops an appraisal system for evaluating low-carbon construction sites for building projects. There are six items in the system, namely the “water reduction”, the “electricity reduction”, the “wastes reduction”, the “plantings to reduce”, the “construction equipment reduction”, and the “transportation reduction.” Each item includes several evaluation sub-items. These items and sub-items are obtained by conduction literature reviews and expert interviews. The systems are then tested on construction sites of three building projects. The initial results show the soundness of the system to evaluate the low-carbon emission of construction sites for building projects. With the system, carbon emission of construction job sites for building projects can be reduced. |
