摘要(英) The digit ratio is the ratio of second and fourth finger (length of index finger: length of ring finger). This ratio is affected by exposure to androgens e.g. testosterone while in the uterus and that this 2D:4D ratio can be considered a crude measure for prenatal androgen exposure.
Researchers have found that androgens/ testosterone effects physical abilities, cognitive model, and personalities of human being. Thus resent works e.g. Manning (2002) or Manning, Scutt, Wilson, & Lewis-Jones (1998) have tried to find the relationship between digit ratio and personal characters, traits, or behavior.
Many research found that masculinity refers to lower digit ratio, and femininity refers to higher digit ratio. Thus this research hypothesized that low digit ratio female were more fit in jobs require more masculinity (security and operator), and high digit ratio ones were more fit in jobs demand femininity (assistant).
This research uses Pearson correlation and ANOVA to test the difference of work performance of different digit ratio female with three types of jobs, and the linear relationships of work performance and digit ratio. Sample size is totally 229, including 80 assistants, 62 securities, and 87 operators.
The results reveal that only one statistically significant relationship between work performance and digit ratio was found (the digit ratio of left hand has significantly negative correlation with seniority). But the scatter plot of the seniority (X axis) and digit ratio (Y axis) shows a “cone-shape”. It means female with too high or too low digit ratio are not appropriate to being security.
