Energy efficiency in wireless broadband network is increasingly crucial because of the shrinking size and the battery constraint of mobile devices. Therefore, to save user equipment (UE) power is an important issue in the LTE network. This issue is relatively more critical for the uplink traffic because UE can adjust its transmission power for better transmission performance. Meanwhile, under the condition of limited spectrum and heavy traffic load in system, spectrum efficiency is also important resulting from the pursuits of high QoS service and high data rate.
In this thesis, we propose a novel scheme, the tradeoff scheme for heuristically adopting power-saving and spectrum-saving radio resource allocations. In the proposed scheme, the system can dynamically adjust the resource allocation methods according to the current system condition. When the spectrum is rich enough to serve UE, the resource allocation aims to save UE’s power; when the traffic load is heavy, it aims to save the spectrum to serve more UEs and guarantee UE’s QoS and data rate request. The proposed scheme considers UE’s changeable channel condition, different traffic types, and UE’s QoS in the decision of scheduling priority. Furthermore, in order to offer large continuous resource blocks (RB) for UE with huge data requirement, and not to break the spectrum into many segments, weighting function of segment selection and procedure of RB selection are designed along with the characteristic of RB continuity.
Simulation results show that the proposed hybrid scheme achieves great desired performance on the dynamically tradeoff between power-saving and spectrum-saving method. The hybrid power-saving and spectrum-saving scheme achieves the great advantages of both two methods, for example, the low power consumption, the low packet dropping rate, high throughput, and more UEs to be served. |
