dc.description.abstract | With the rise of social networks, people can easily share their experiences. However, many users
think that messages can be sent anonymously in the internet, and write attacks and abusive remarks,
without considering others’ feelings. In this thesis, the discussion on such issue is studied, and an
altruistic discussion platform is established. We hope that the implementation of the platform is able
to teach students the correct behavior in social networks, and find the behavior change of students after
the experiments are conducted for a year.
In this thesis, we study on three questions, including the enhancement of student engagement,
reducing the incidence of malicious remarks, and promote the mutual benefit behavior culture in class.
In the participation part, the altruism discussion platform is built upon behavior modification, which
the token economy principles are conducted by the use of incentives. The rules for discussion and
incentives are set clearly that students have clear goals in the activities, and they are motivated by
collecting the incentive points. In order to avoid malicious statements or the occurrence of
cyberbullying situation in the activities, the systematic ignoring is applied to achieve the audit
mechanism, including the limitation of the publication of malicious comments in the discussion boards,
rewarding constructive comments, which reduces the effect of malicious remarks. The various stages
of teaching mechanisms are designed in accordance with the principles of behavior shaping with
different situations of modify award rules
The proposed altruism discussion platform is composed of audit mechanisms, incentives and
instructional design, which encourages students to participate in the discussions as desired. We hope
to promote the message quality, mutual benefit and mutual learning atmosphere. After a year of

experiment, we observed from the records from the platform, and find that the questionnaires and
interviews does enhance student engagement, message quality and successfully built a mutually
