The thesis focuses on the traditional elements such as Hakka folk songs, Hakka ditties in Hakka pop music. The covers, adaptations, and newly created pop songs which use the elements of Hakka folk songs and Hakka ditties are classified by traditional lyrics and tones, and analyzed by tonal language, melody, and the style of performance.
The covers and adaptations which used the elements of Hakka folk songs and Hakka ditties that won or nominated by the GMA (Golden Melody Awards) from 1981 to 2021 are chosen as the samples of the thesis. The relationships among of the genre, the style, and the Hakka folk songs in these Hakka pop songs are impacted by the preference of the creators
The thesis also focuses on the variations and the differences of the composing, singing styles, the using of empty words/function words after involving Hakka folk songs into Hakka pop songs. There are four interviewees in the research. The data and information are collected after the interviews and designed into a research flow chart. After open coding and interview content analysis, the result is that both covers and adaptations of Hakka pop music with traditional elements, the traditional melody is the frame. In addition, the pop music that applied the Hakka folk songs helps people to identify with Hakka culture.
Finally, I hope that these Hakka folk songs can be a way to preserve and convey the Hakka culture. I hope the thesis can encourage creators to develop and produce more ways of lyrics, making the songs easier for people to get to know, allowing more and more people to know the culture, and making learning the Hakka culture more entertaining. | en_US |
