The studies of Yi-Jing became more and more diverse in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), whose aim of restoring the real intentions of Yi-Jing and Yi-Zhuan was one important branch of the mainstreams in this period. Yi-Jing researchers who lived in the early period of the Qing Dynasty, focused on the critique of Tu Shu Yi Xue (圖書易學) published in Song Dynasty (960-1127). However, Cheng Tingzuo, an encyclopedic scholar in the middle period of the Qing Dynasty, grandly used the way of doing research to examine most of the research achievements among the long history of Yi-Jing study. This dissertation contains three main parts. The first part (Chapter and Chapter) will put emphasis on Cheng Tingzuo’s research methods and standards for Yi-Jing, meanwhile his Yijian philosophy(易簡哲學) derived from Yi-Jing will also be talked in chapter 3. This paper argues that Cheng Tingzuo used these research methods and standards to assimilate and criticize other Yi-Jing scholars’ opinions about hermeneutics for Yi-Jing, which will be placed in the second part (Chapter 4 and Chapter 5). In the third part (Chapter 6), this dissertation will research two main questions: one will discuss the relation between Cheng Tingzuo and the study group of Yan Yuan and Li Gong; and the other will provide a response to the question that how did other scholars in the Qing Dynasty commended Cheng Tingzuo’s research methods.zh_TW
