dc.description.abstract | In recent years, Company V, a contact lenses manufacturer, has been faced with increasing market competition, exposing its problem of poor production efficiency. This study attempts find out how new information systems, and integration among different application systems, can help to improve its production efficiency.
There are many factors that may affect the production efficiency of contact lenses. The first step of this study is to look into the causes of the production problems, which result in low yield rate and defective products, which in turn resulted in customer complaints. This study found out that the manufacturing processes are sometime error prone, due to its manual information collection. The current information systems do not include Manufacturing Execution System (MES). MES is a system linking Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) at the planning level; and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) on the shop floor. It can also instantly collect process parameters and analyze the causes of process yields through big data analysis. Fool -proof mechanism and early-warning functions of the MES can also help to prevent on-site staff from performing erroneous actions, maintain job discipline at the manufacturing sites, and effectively improve production efficiency.
In the past century, enabled by computer and telecommunication technologies, modern production management theories have improved drastically. This study proposes implementing an MES system to solve the problems, and carried out a selection process for a suitable MES solution. Analysis suggests that implementing a suitable MES solution can potentially resolve the production problems, and increase the production performance of Company V. | en_US |
