The Hakka community care center plays a prominent role in respond to the aging population. Not only does it provide four main services to the community, it also preserves and inherits the local culture. Amongst the four services, catering services considered the most direct and immediate in achieving results. Hence, the study aims to investigate the meal delivery members of Hakka community care center on the effects of meal delivery, including the service itself and the spillover effect. After the stakeholders identified adopting the in-depth interview, the demonstrating value helps stakeholders to understand related data in a simple term and serves as suggestions to future sustainable development.
The results find that the effectiveness of care center functions are reached by considering meal delivery instead of meal sharing, the accessibility, the importance on health and nutrition, the care visit while delivering meal and the group activity for health promotion. Moreover, the spillover effect after promoting meal delivery includes the improvement of relationship between the elderly and their families, the commitment of community members, the inheritance of Hakka culture, and the enhancement of the elderly’s interpersonal relationship. In addition, the social value of Hakka community care center is extracted using demonstrating value (DV) which collects information from the stakeholder’s perspectives, simple and clear visualized display, accepted by stakeholders, quick understanding about organization’s current situation, the use of DV templates to reach organizational development and analyze the spillover effect from meal delivery.
The study suggests that 1) for government’s policy-making: constant professional courses or seminars regarding meal sharing is desirable, people who reserve retirement are encouraged to participate in care center volunteer services, and the request for appropriation can be simplified or instructed; 2) for community development association: the training for management level in program execution, catering service volunteer management, the employment from multi-employment promotion program, cost reduction and profit increase, expenditure control, the combination of related programs, operation management, financial management and sustainability; and 3) for future research: the data adequacy of using demonstrating value, the quantitative description in presenting qualitative questions, and deep understanding in terms of the needs of research unit should be taken into account.
