dc.description.abstract | Since Covid-19 has ravaged the world, epidemic prevention commodities have become daily necessities. Therefore, this study used the mask data collected from six major online shopping platforms from September 2021 to March 2022, the export quantity of masks from the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance from July 2020 to April 2022, and the statistical data of the number of confirmed cases from Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
This study used the semi-logarithmic form of the hedonic price and the Box-Cox model to analyze how the characteristic variables affect mask prices. The mask export model is selected from the top four export regions, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore to investigate the effect of the cumulative monthly number of confirmations, the monthly number of new confirmations, and the average monthly export price of masks on the export quantity of masks.
The results of the semi-logarithmic price model showed that the number of masks, color, three-dimensional type, pattern, N95, activated carbon, international certification, masks with domestic CNS mark, and masks with double seal mark were all positively significant; disposable masks, masks with PM2.5 function, and bacterial filtration rate were all negatively insignificant. Among the online platform characteristics, Books online bookstore is positively significant, Momo, PChome, and Yahoo are negatively significant, and Cosmed is negatively insignificant. The Box-Cox model empirical results show that the implied price of masks with N95 function is the largest in the positive direction. And the implied price of masks made in Taiwan is the largest negative.
The export model empirical results show that Singapore is insignificant, Japan is negative in the static model only for the monthly cumulative number of confirmations, Hong Kong is not as expected, and the monthly average unit price of U.S. exports is negative in the static model. In the model with a lag period, the average monthly export unit price is negative in the current period only. | en_US |
