dc.description.abstract | Since the Executive Yuan formulated the policy of “2025 Non-Nuclear Homeland” in 2016, it has prompted Taiwan Power Corporation to adjust the proportion of various power generation methods, so Taiwan Power Corporation has greatly increased the proportion of renewable energy. However, in the past two years, the Percent Operating Reserve of Taiwan Power Corporation Grid has been repeatedly lower than 6%. In order to ensure the stability of the power supply system, the technology of using battery energy storage systems to stabilize the power grid has become the latest countermeasure, and it also gives energy storage system manufacturers great opportunities to expand their markets and opportunities.
The case company in this study originally focused on the application fields of various lithium battery modules. In recent years, it has extended its expertise in batteries to the field of battery energy storage. Discharge during time periods and recharge during off-peak hours to assist enterprises in Taiwan′s current unstable power system, to improve ways to stabilize power, reduce losses caused by power instability, and develop battery energy storage services for profit model. This study uses the Business Model Canvas proposed by Alexander Osterwalder and colleagues to analyze the nine aspects of the case company, so as to understand the niche of the case company in battery energy storage services, and use the SWOT matrix to analyze market competitiveness.
The business model of the case company selling battery energy storage equipment and accepting entrustment to provide battery energy storage services has achieved a win-win model for all three parties. The case company gets the profit from the production of battery energy storage equipment, as well as long-term management costs, maintenance experience and battery update costs, and can continuously improve energy storage equipment and update batteries. Ordinary companies investing in battery energy storage systems use the online UPS of the energy storage systems to carry out high-precision production processes. In the event of an unexpected power outage at Taiwan Power Company, there will still be extra power as a buffer to avoid affecting the production schedule. Taiwan Power Company also achieves the purpose of reducing the load during peak hours and delays the benefits of investing in power plants, and the large number of scattered energy storage systems can increase the flexibility of power dispatching and reduce the burden on transmission and distribution lines.
