dc.description.abstract | Since 1998, LCD polarizer manufacturing industry has been blooming in Greater China region. Under fiercely international competitions from Japan & South Korean, and local impact of TFT-LCD industry internal vertical integration, LCD polarizer manufacturers’ profits have become less and less. With globalization, supply chain management has become important for manufacturers. The competition mode has transit from company to company to supply chain to supply chain. Through effective supply chain management, the relations between polarizer raw material supplier and manufacturer could become more cost-effective as close partnership instead of opponency. Since each supplier is the basic unit in the supply chain; therefore, it is a must for LCD polarizer manufacturers to learn how to choose a right supplier through effective performance assessment.
The analysis approach is “case study” to generalize the modes how polarizer manufacturers conduct supplier performance assessment on a regular basis.
From the aspects of supply chain management, supplier management, and performance assessment literatures of supply chain management to conduct a case study, which has phased in supplier management system, for the further study of supply chain management development, processes, and systematic assessment methods. Key component suppliers of the case study company are mainly famous first tier suppliers from Japan, Europe, and America. There are some suggestions in the study would be made for, which the challenges that the case study company is facing with.
Last but not the least, it is expected that the study could not only contribute in supplier management assessment in LCD polarizer industry but also be applied to TFT-LCD industry and other industries.
