This thesis is concerned with the research of layer 3 handover scheme based on IEEE 802.16e network. The IETF RFC-4068 “Fast Handover for Mobile IPv6” with reactive mode causes insufficient time to prepare layer 3 handover. When an MN perform reactive FMIPv6 handover, it will experience large latency and packet loss. In this thesis, we use Pre-Binding Update at network discovery to speed up layer 3 handover , and use MIHF(Media Independent Handover Function) to reduce amount of message exchange. In the final simulation , results of proposed Pre-Binding Update scheme are compared with those of “Mobile IPv6 Fast Handovers over IEEE 802.16e Networks” which is a draft on IETF , and results of numerical analysis are presented to compare the signaling cost of different layer 3 handover scheme. |
