摘要
自從1998年南海季風實驗(SCSMEX)期間對南海地區夏季季風觀測有了進一步的資料之後，許多學者也針對此年做了不同的研究，但大多著墨於大尺度環境流場的分析。又因南海地區夏季季風肇始受到中緯度斜壓系統與熱帶擾動系統間交互的影響，且北部與南部又有其不同的環流特性但卻又相互影響。本研究利用1998年南海季風實驗所提供的經緯度網格資料，經由基本氣象場與高階量變數場的分析，將1998年夏季季風肇始過程分三個時期來探討不同尺度環流演變與熱力特徵等對季風肇始的影響，並分析季風肇始過程中南海南北部的環流差異。
分析結果顯示，1998年南海夏季季風肇始期間，在南海北部地區低層大氣從肇始過程之前期到後期一直保持不穩定的狀態，而南海南部一直到肇始過程第三時期不穩定度才明顯的增加。水汽輻散場方面，南海北部地區三個時期低層皆有水汽輻合的狀況，而南海南部地區因水汽量不足，所以低層並無水汽輻合情形，直到肇始過程第三時期，南海南部低層才有明顯的水汽輻合情形。從熱源與水汽匯分析可以看出整個季風肇始時期來看，南海北部地區與的垂直積分幾乎都呈現正值的狀態，而在南海南部地區，直到肇始的後期才轉變為熱源與水汽匯區。綜合上述的分析可知，南海南北部在肇始期間最主要的差異即在水汽的多寡與到達的時間。
