摘要: The scalable video coding (SVC) technique employs layered scalability to accommodate device capabilities and transmission conditions to meet QoS requirements for streaming video services in wireless access networks. However, the SVC streaming video still suffers perceivable service interruption during handover in wireless access networks. Much of the previous research focused on the strategies of shortening handover latency to mitigate service disturbance. Nevertheless, latency shortening cannot fully eliminate service gaps and service interruptions. This paper utilizes the layered scalability of SVC video streams and proposes an adaptive buffer filling approach for seamless video streaming services. The adaptive buffer filling approach can select appropriate SVC coded layers to allow SVC video streams to prepare for crossing service gaps in an active manner. Furthermore, this paper uses the proposed strategy in the context of mobile WiMAX networks.
