Abstract: 摘要: One way to broadcast a popular video is to partition the video into segments, which are simultaneously broadcast on several channels. The approach lets multiple viewers share channels, and thus the stress on the scarce bandwidth can be alleviated without sacrificing viewer waiting time. One representative scheme is the fixeddelay pagoda broadcasting (FDPB) scheme, which yields nearly minimum waiting time. Based on the scheme, we propose the VBR FDPB (VFDPB) scheme, which can broadcast VBR-encoded videos smoothly. By dynamically changing segment partition and arranging segment broadcasting on server channels, the scheme reduces the peak bandwidth consumption and variance. Extensive simulation has been conducted on VFDPB by comparing a number of past studies, including the trace-adaptive fragmentation (TAF) scheme and the smooth fast broadcasting (SFB) scheme. The results show that the proposed scheme yields lower bandwidth peak and variance.
