    Abstract: 本文選用有日治時期臺灣唯一言論機關之稱的《臺灣民報》系列做為論述場域,藉當代臺人的眼光來看日本統治下的教育狀態。嘗試整理分析該報有關教育之報導與各類言論,探究在這個傳統與現代的交替時期,加上必須面臨混亂的民族情感,臺灣用了何種心態去面對、理解與轉變?而當時的言論精英又是否如實的扮演輿論先鋒的角色? 時間斷限為1920(大正12)年至1932(昭和7)年,正值臺灣教育之進展時期。在近代教育意識發起後,配合著整體社會運動的鼓吹,學校教育因而被全面的審視、檢討,知識份子意圖將學校改革為適合當時臺灣社會所需要的樣貌,以拯救在文化黎明期的臺灣島,再進而達到民族、階級、婦女的解放。藉由《臺灣民報》系列中教育議題的質量分析,可以發現普及教育、教材內容、教師問題等三大議題。普及教育方面強調初等教育機關的普及性以及中等以上教育入學的公平性;教材內容主張人格教育、漢文教育以及符合實際社會之教材;教師問題則著重在教師之品格與教學。就其宣導教育的態度來看,當時的知識份子已有教育是權利也是義務的想法。並且不單單是為自己的發展,更是全臺灣、全民族共榮之法。 This article selects “TAIWAN MINPAO”, the Taiwan only publication institution during the Japanese Rule, as the study. It shows the condition of the education system under Japanese rule from Taiwanese’ point of view and analyzes the reports of this newspaper related to any education issues and opinions. It presents how the Taiwanese faced and understood the transformation between traditional and modern times and how social commentators played their roles.
