Pinang Island was formally ceded to the Britain in 1786. Nutmeg trees were cultivated on large scale plantings; therefore, there were bumper crops with fine cultivation There is a village where Hakka people in the mountain in Pinang Island called Balik Pulau. The villagers are almost farmers, who plant a variety of common crops; however, corps is different from those in Taiwan.
