This thesis aimed to discuss whether the automatic dialogue agents in Second Life will improve students English learning outcomes. This study adopted Lee et al.’s model (2010), which discusses the influences of virtual environments on learning effectiveness, to investigate the influence of automatic dialogue agents on English learning from a variety of dimensions and variables. The experimental results showed that, under the 3D virtual environment, SL feature had significant effect on Presence and Control & Active. Besides, Usability had significant effect on Motivation, Cognitive Benefits and Control & Active. Moreover, Presence, Motivation, Cognitive Benefits and Control & Active positively influenced learning effectiveness. Therefore, this study revealed that the use of automatic dialogue agent in Second Life had a positive effect on English learning.
