    Abstract: 許多應用包括光通訊需要輕巧及高效率之積體光學元件。全光通訊(all-optical communication)系統已被公認為提供全球化通訊網路持續成長所需求之高頻寬傳輸之最終解決方法,因此已成為通訊學界及產業界所戮力追求的目標。我們將在本計畫書裡提出一為期兩年的研究計畫來研發一系列新穎的光電及雷射元件; 這些元件係以積體結合非週期性晶格極化反轉鈮酸鋰(APLN)晶體其獨特之非線性及電光效應來達成其高效率及多重功能的目的。以此技術,我們將可發展一個可同時工作在通訊波段及其倍頻波段之主動式、窄頻、多波長光學濾波器。該元件將具有潛力應用於一個高密度容量的波長多工器(WDM) 系統。本計畫將分成三大研發階段來完成所設定的計畫目標:(1) 第一研發階段,發展以單一非週期性晶格極化反轉鈮酸鋰晶體來同時作為一電光窄頻寬通多波長濾波器及一多波長二倍頻濾波器。這將是第一個以單一准相位匹配結構進行優化整合兩個光學元件功能及效率的創新設計,(2) 第二研發階段,發展以單一鈦金屬擴散非週期性晶格極化反轉鈮酸鋰波導來同時作為一電光窄頻寬通多波長濾波器及一多波長二倍頻濾波器。此研發階段我們係將第一研發階段所發展的元件推展開發至波導元件,及 (3) 第三研發階段,發展使用單一非週期性晶格極化反轉鈮酸鋰晶體作為一半導體雷射幫浦Nd:YVO4 雷射及一Er:Ti:APLN 波導雷射之雷射Q-調制器及二倍頻產生器。這將是第一個以單一准相位匹配結構進行優化整合多個光學元件功能(即導波、雷射、Q-調制及二倍頻等功能)及效率的創新設計。因本計畫所提案研發的元件皆具有在單一光通道內同時處理多重光學訊號或功能之能力,因此它們將可以是最具潛力及最具廣泛應用的光學處理元件之一。 ; Compact and efficient integrated optical devices are of particular interest for many applications including the optical communications. All-optical communication has been long pursued in the scientific and industrial community of communication because it has been acknowledged as the ultimate solution for the ever-growing bandwidth demands in telecommunications. In this project, we have proposed a 2-year research plan for the development of a series of novel and interesting photonics and laser devices based on the integration of the nonlinear-optic (NLO) and electro-optic (EO) properties of aperiodically poled lithium niobate (APLN) crystals. With this technique, an active, narrowband, multi-wavelength optical filter simultaneously working in the telecom and its frequency-doubled bands will be demonstrated. Such a device could be attractive and of potential use in a high-capacity wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) system. Three developing phases have been proposed to accomplish the planned project goals, they are (1) Phase I, development of an APLN device for simultaneously being an EO narrowband multi-wavelength filter and a frequency doubler in the telecom bands. It will be the first design of a single quasi-phase-matching (QPM) structure in optimally integrating dual optical device functions to achieve high device efficiency, (2) Phase II, development of a Ti:APLN waveguide for simultaneously being an electro-optic narrowband multi-wavelength filter and a frequency doubler in the telecom bands. The waveguide version of the device proposed in Phase I will be designed, fabricated, and characterized, and (3) Phase III, development of single-grating-structure APLN devices for simultaneously performing laser Q-switching and second-harmonic generation in a diode pumped 1342-nm Nd:YVO4 laser and in an Er:Ti:APLN waveguide laser. This will be the first demonstration of a single QPM crystal integrating multiple optical device functions (i.e., waveguiding, laser, Q-switching, and SHG). Since the devices proposed in this project are capable of simultaneous process of multiple optical signals or functions in single optical pass, they could be among of the most powerful optical processors for versatile applications. ; 研究期間 9708 ~ 9807
