    Abstract: 腎臟病與腎臟癌是台灣一個嚴重的健康問體。台灣是末期腎臟病比例世界最高國家。 腎臟病也是腎臟癌的已知致病因素(risk factor) 。腎臟病只能控制惡化,不能治癒。 傳統化療與放射線療對腎臟癌也無效。因為症狀少,早期診斷也很困難。40-50% 的腎 臟腫瘤會轉成惡化, 惡性腎臟癌病人的5 年生存率只有10%。這麽令人悲觀的數據也 指出對於腎臟病生物學了解的迫切須要。腎臟疾病的一個重要特性是它與一個抑癌基 因, 希佩爾-林道基因 (VHL),有很密切的關係。VHL 基因突變會導致囊腫性腎臟 病,也是腎臟透;Kidney disease and cancer constitute a serious health problem in Taiwan.
