    Abstract: 企業為了避免資料遺失或損毀,應定期執行資料備份,以確保資料的完整性與可用性,隨著數位時代的興起與行動裝置的普及,企業所需備份的資料量越來越大,備份作業所耗用的網路頻寬及時間與日俱增,備份速度緩慢及資料回復時間要求越來越嚴謹等問題,都是企業成長將面臨的議題。
    本研究透過個案公司備份系統整合虛擬磁帶櫃 (Virtual Tape Library, VTL) 架構,比較實體及虛擬磁帶櫃之備份作業,分析導入虛擬磁帶櫃影響備份系統之效益為何。研究結果顯示虛擬磁帶櫃是基於磁碟的儲存設備,透過模擬成磁帶櫃的方式,讓企業在不需更改現有架構與管理流程狀態下,整合現有備份系統相關軟硬體設備,保障既有投資,提高備份作業效率。在應用方面,其重複資料刪除技術縮減了備份資料儲存空間,使得備份資料儲存容量可大幅減少,透過網路加密傳送備份資料複本,消除實體磁帶運送至異地保存所伴隨的費用與風險,所需的網路頻寬亦能夠降低。
    ;In order to avoid loss of or damage to data, businesses should regularly backup their data to ensure the integrity and usability of the data. With the arrival of digital age and the popularity of mobile devices, the amount of data needed for backup is increasing. The backup process has put increasing demands on companies’ network bandwidth and time. The slow backup speed and more stringent requirements for data recovery have created a greater challenge for the companies.
    This research compares the backup operations of traditional tape library and virtual tape library (VTL), and analyzes the benefits of implementing virtual tape library for the backup system. this result shows that VTL, a disk-based storage device, can simulate a tape library, allowing a company to integrate VTL with its existing backup system and the related hardware and software without changing the existing architecture and management. It can thus keep the existing investment and improve the efficiency of backup operations. In terms of applications, the deduplication technology reduces the backup data storage space and thereby the demand for backup data storage capacity. Through the network to send a copy of encrypted backup data, the costs and risks associated with physical tape delivery can be avoided and the network bandwidth can be reduced.
    Implementing VTL can effectively improve the performance of the backup system, by shortening the backup time as well as the recovery time. As the VTL can simulate most tape drives and tapes, replacement of physical tape drives can become flexible with more buffer, making it easier to plan and manage the replacement of backup related hardware and software. This research provides a reference for companies that consider implementing VTL to improve their backup systems and operations.
