本論文的研究對象為美國攝影師彌爾頓.米勒於 1860 年代來華後創作的一 組「中國式」肖像照片。這組照片的特殊之處在於點出了攝影術在十九世紀中國 的傳播、適應與調整過程,以及滲透中國的一些文化、技術和商業面向。本論文 除了從作品的角度出發,看待旅華西方攝影師如何受到中國藝術傳統的影響之外; 同樣,隨著中國攝影技術逐漸成熟,中國攝影師對中國繪畫的傳統既有傳承,也 有避免,與西方攝影師的競爭之下,如何用自己的方式理解與採用這些西方來的 技術,也是本論文欲處理的。;The main idea of this thesis is that “Chinese” portrait style photos created by American photographer Milton Miller in the 1860s, the special feature of this group of photos was to point out the photography in the nineteenth century China′s spread, adaptation and adjustment process, as well as penetrated some of Chinese cultural, technical and business-oriented. From the works, in addition to look at the Western photographers how to be influenced by the Chinese art tradition; similarly, this essay has shown that as the craft of photography in China became well honed, the conventions of Chinese painting were as likely to be embraced as avoided.
