;This thesis aims to research on R.G. Frey’s animal ethics. The content is based on his animal ethics, from “the difference between human and animal” to “human’s value of life is higher than that of animal” as the approach in order to sought in-depth on how Frey’s critical argument – “human’s value of life is higher than that of animal” is justified. Theoretically, Frey’s animal ethics is grounded on preference utilitarianism which empasises the difference between human and animal. He adopts a criterion of “richness in life” to weigh the value of life so as justifying the viewpoint that “human’s value of life is higher than that of animal”. Practically, based on such perspective, carnivore and improved factorial farm will be permissible. Animal research will also be allowed for maximizing utilities for the sake of human. Such “anti-equality” animal ethics, though is not mainstream, provides a unique animal ethics viewpoint.
